Master Speaker Ulf Meyer to Take Christoph Ingenhoven's Place

Due to unforeseen circumstances Christoph Ingenhoven has unfortunately had to cancel his appearance as a Master Speaker at Greenbuild. Ulf Meyer, assistant professor for sustainable urban design at the College for Architecture, Planning and Design (CAPD) at Kansas State University and a close colleague of Ingenhoven's, has agreed to fill in for him.

If you registered to attend Ingenhoven's session, you are still registered for Meyer's. You can update your schedule at anytime through the Greenbuild Scheduler.

College students, faculty and staff: For $10, Attend Opening Celebration with Al Gore and Sheryl Crow

Members of the Arizona college and university community are invited to attend the Greenbuild Opening Keynote & Celebration featuring former Vice President Al Gore and Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 11 - Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Chase Field

For the low price of $10, students, faculty and staff from Arizona's colleges and universities can join with thousands of Greenbuild attendees to hear the keynote address by Al Gore and a performance by Sheryl Crow.

Register today. Members of Arizona's college and university community can register by providing their name and e-mail address. Choose the $10 option for the “Opening Keynote & Celebration” in the Auxiliary Events section of the registration form. Tickets will be available for pickup at the Phoenix Convention Center starting Monday, Nov. 9, at 8 a.m. You will be required to show your school ID when picking up your tickets.

All ticket sales proceeds will benefit USGBC’s Green Campus Campaign.

Nominate a Person or Organization for 2009 Leadership Awards

USGBC is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2009 USGBC Leadership Awards. Award nominees should embody the attributes expected of a green building leader and achievements that demonstrate excellence, exemplify the intent and spirit of the green building movement, and have made a significant impact in advancing the green building movement within their sector. The awards should be considered for people and organizations that have helped elevate the awareness of the green building movement throughout the world and are role models through their accomplishments and professional and personal contributions.

Award categories this year have been changed. Individuals or organizations can be nominated in one of the three new categories:

Public Sector Leadership, to honor the individuals, departments, agencies, K-12 public schools or school systems, public colleges or universities, or other government bodies at the local, state and national levels of government.
Private Sector Leadership, to honor individuals or companies, divisions of companies, retailers, for-profit healthcare organizations, or professional service firms.
NGO (Non-Government Organizations) Leadership, to honor individuals or non-profit organizations, professional associations, not-for-profit healthcare organizations, or private, non-profit institutions of K-12 or higher learning.

Nominees will be accepted in one category only. Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m. EDT. If you have questions, please contact awards@usgbc.org.

Greenbuild Takes Home Fastest 50 Award for Fourth Year in a Row

The 2008 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo has been selected by Tradeshow Week, the premier news magazine of the exhibition industry, as one of the 50 fastest growing trade shows in the U.S. and Canada. Greenbuild 2008 was held in Boston and drew more than 28,000 attendees and featured 800 exhibit booths.

"We are humbled to be recognized for the fourth year in a row, especially during a time of economic uncertainty," said Kimberly Lewis, Vice President, USGBC. "Greenbuild continues to grow in both size and offerings, demonstrating not only that the green economy is alive, it’s thriving.”

Greenbuild is the largest gathering of representatives from all sectors of the green building movement and is the three time recipient of IMEX Green Meetings Award. Winners of the Fastest 50 must qualify as either a trade, association or consumer show and must also demonstrate growth from 2006 to 2008. Greenbuild 2008 will be formally recognized by Tradeshow Week at an awards ceremony this November in Houston.

Greenbuild Wins Prestigious IMEX Green Meetings Award for the Third Time

June 3, 2009 (Washington, DC) – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) today announced that it has been awarded the IMEX Green Meetings Award in recognition of the 2008 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, which took place in Boston, Mass. This is the third time that the USGBC has accepted this honor for demonstrating an unwavering dedication to minimizing the show’s impact on the environment. Greenbuild is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building, and convenes the building industry for three days of outstanding educational sessions, renowned speakers, green building tours, seminars and networking events.

“While this is our third year receiving the prestigious IMEX Award, we’re even more humbled by this accomplishment given that our Boston show was the largest conference in Greenbuild’s seven year history, hosting nearly 30,000 attendees and featuring the largest exhibit hall yet with 1,400 exhibits,” said Kimberly Lewis, Vice President of Conferences and Events for the USGBC. “We’re looking forward to continuing to help transform the global meetings industry at this year’s Greenbuild show in Phoenix, Ariz.”

The IMEX Green Meetings Award is presented in partnership with the Green Meeting Industry Council(GMIC). The Award sets stringent standards and judges applicants against their ability to demonstrate innovative efforts to significantly minimize the environmental impact of a meeting or conference. A judging panel, which consists of senior industry experts, examines a variety of success measures. They include energy efficiency, air and water quality, water conservation, waste minimization and environmental purchasing criteria. Judges also ask applicants to explain their economic indicators, if and how their meeting helped commitment to change within the local community, and also how it aided conservation.

Kimberly Lewis accepted the award on behalf of the Council last week at an IMEX Gala Dinner in Frankfurt, Germany. This past March, USGBC’s Conferences and Events team was recognized as the first organization in North America to receive certification under BS 8901:2007, the world’s first certifiable sustainability management system standard for the events industry.
